An escalator malfunction at Penn Station sent three people to the hospital yesterday afternoon, said an MTA spokesperson.
The motorized stairs suddenly accelerated at 1 p.m., sending victims tumbling until the emergency-cutoff button was pressed.
Three people were taken to Bellevue Hospital and two others suffered minor injuries but did not need to be hospitalized.
The escalator connects 34th Street and Seventh Avenue with the station.
It will remain shut down for weekend repairs.
