An English-language teacher has been indicted for swindling thousands of dollars from her foreign students by falsely promising them green cards in exchange for hefty fees, Manhattan prosecutors announced Monday.

Jenetta Ferguson, 58, who taught English as a second language, allegedly approached several students and offered to secure them the coveted visas for $8,500 to $10,500 a pop, court papers say.

She stole $30,000 from at least six people in the country on student visas, authorities said.

Some of the victims were from Italy, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh and the Philippines, prosecutors said.

Ferguson was arraigned on Monday in Manhattan Supreme Court on charges of grand larceny and scheme to defraud.
