The estranged widow of a transgender woman who was born in a German displacement camp following World War II is fighting her late husband’s best friend over his $250,000 life-insurance policy.

A lawsuit over the benefits was filed in Manhattan Supreme Court Friday, raising questions about legal issues related to transgender people just weeks after Caitlyn Jenner came out to the world.

The Manhattan case involves Nicole Ilana Paige, born Arthur Silberspitz in Ausburg, Germany, in 1947. Silberspitz emigrated to the US and served as an Army medic in Vietnam. He married Bette Weisel and the couple settled in Atlantic Beach on Long Island.

But the veteran upended his family in 2009 when he decided to transition to a woman.

In 2010, Silberspitz legally changed his name to Nicole and then removed her wife from her life-insurance policy, replacing her with friend Chloe De Rossi.

Because Paige never divorced Weisel, the widow is claiming she’s still the rightful owner of the $250,000 insurance money.

Neither Weisel nor De Rossi returned calls for comment.
