NYPD cop Michael Valva’s estranged wife couldn’t bear to look at him in court Monday, when both he and his fiancee appeared for custody hearings tied to their alleged hypothermia murder of his 8-year-old son.

“Standing next to them, I just kept thinking of my baby and the way he was abused,” Zubko-Valva said outside Suffolk County Family Court in Central Islip.

“The way he died, it breaks my heart. I pray to God that Tommy — his death will not be in vain. The ones who did this, they deserve justice. I put the results in the hands of God.”

Valva, who was handcuffed behind his back and surrounded by four court officers, also pleaded not guilty through his lawyer to six family court petitions that accuse him of abusing his three sons and the three daughters of his fiancee, Angela Pollina.

Zubko-Valva — who lost custody of her kids in 2017 during a bitter, ongoing divorce battle with Valva — was awarded temporary custody of her surviving, 10- and 6-year-old sons on Wednesday amid the investigation into Thomas’ slaying, Suffolk County Child Protective Services lawyer Gary Rosenthal said.

Family Court Judge Frank Tantone on Monday extended her custody until further order.

Valva, 40, and Pollina, 42, were busted Friday morning for allegedly forcing Thomas to sleep overnight in an unheated garage as the temperature plunged to just 19 degrees.

They allegedly did nothing to help as Thomas died of hypothermia, and are charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing him by acting with “depraved indifference to human life.”

Their lawyer, Matthew Tuohy, has said, “They are both maintaining their innocence 100%.”

Zubko-Valva, a Rikers Island correction officer, has claimed that her kids were taken from her “unlawfully” and that authorities ignored her allegations they were being abused by their dad.

On Monday, she showed The Post an order of protection issued against her on Sept. 6, 2017, by Nassau County Judge Hope Schwartz Zimmerman, who barred her from any contact with her kids.

Two weeks later, Zimmerman eased the restrictions so Zubko-Valva, 36, could visit with Thomas and his older brother, but only pursuant to a court order, according to another document the mom showed The Post.

It’s unclear what led to Zubko-Valva losing custody of her kids.

A spokesman for the state court system, Lucian Chalfen, called Thomas’ slaying “an unimaginable tragedy.”

“The individuals who were directly involved in the death have been arrested and will face accountability,” he said.

“However, other than the parties directly involved in both the matrimonial and custody cases, no one has any knowledge of the facts and circumstances, along with the emotional issues and inevitable complexities, that led to the decisions made by three separate judges, in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, during the numerous court appearances.”
