ALBANY — One of the state’s top ethics cops says he’ll quit if his colleagues don’t reverse a ruling that would keep secret the names of lobbying organizations’ big donors, including those to a group that supports Gov. Cuomo.

Ravi Batra, a member of the Joint Commission on Public Ethics, said proposed rules requiring disclosure of donations after July 1 of this year don’t go back far enough.

The Committee to Save New York raised more than $17.5 million last year to fund a $12 million TV ad campaign promoting Cuomo’s agenda. Under JCOPE’s proposed rules, it wouldn’t have to reveal any of those donations.

JCOPE spokesman John Milgrim said the rules are “wholly consistent with the law and provide for unprecedented disclosure in an area where no such disclosure has been required before.”
