Even odds to save OTB
ALBANY — It comes down to the wire for the New York City Off-Track Betting Corp. today as senators gather in Albany to consider a do-or-die rescue bill.
Just hours before a vote on Gov. Paterson’s plan to restructure the bankrupt and beleaguered book-making agency, it was still unclear whether proponents could overcome opposition from gambling foes and upstate and Long Island senators.
Senate insiders said Democrats would need about a half-dozen Republican votes to win passage.
One well-informed Senate staffer put the bill’s chances at “50-50.”
