The Occupy Wall Street eviction spurred a surge in donations from sympathizers.

“Yesterday, we got over $18,000, which was the highest we’ve had in weeks,” Peter Dutro, a volunteer with the demonstrators’ finance committee, said yesterday.

The donations poured in through the official Occupy Wall Street Web site, boosting its coffers.

Since much of the cash had been earmarked for military-style heavy-duty tents and sleeping bags — which are now forbidden from being set up in Zuccotti Park — the group is trying to agree on new spending priorities.

To date, the official donations, which are channeled through the legally registered nonprofit Alliance for Global Justice, have totalled about $450,000.

About $22,000 was spent on “food, medical care and laundry cleaning.” Some $20,000 went to “communication expenses,” including “computer, Wi-Fi hot spots, livestream cameras, supplies, telephone, video and audio expenses.” And $1,000 went to transportation.
