The adorable, adopted 9-year-old son of a retired NYPD cop has finally arrived in Gotham after a hard-fought, three-year-long battle against bureaucrats.

“This has been at the forefront of my life, so it is hard to realize he is home with us,” said emotional ex-Officer Raymond O’Prey of son Mick, who was born in Thailand.

“There is a certain ecstasy and relief. I was afraid to raise my hopes, my spirits,’’ O’Prey said. “We were at the depths of despair. This was like a dream come true. The nightmare is over.”

O’Prey and his wife, Jamriang, finally got the OK to bring her biological grandson to America earlier this year, after numerous visa rejections by the US Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review.

The O’Preys and officials were sparring over whether the couple had sufficiently proven that they had been the boy’s legal guardians for the required two years.

The family only arrived in New York on Thursday because they wanted Mick to finish a school term in his native country.

“I’m very happy he’s here,” Jamriang said. “I didn’t want to leave him [in Thailand] and then have to go back to get him — I couldn’t stand the separation.”

The family is in Howard Beach for now but hopes to eventually find a place in Manhattan.

“I want to take him to places I used to go growing up — the parks, riding the subway — and for him to experience the city,” O’Prey said. “He already loves Coney Island.”

Mick said he’s looking forward to watching baseball in America and growing up to be a police officer, just like his old man.

“I love the Yankees. I want to see them play,” the beaming kid said. “I want to be a police officer.”

Mick has already had his first Nathan’s hot dog.

“It’s tasty,” the smiling child said.

Mick’s family thanked The Post and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for bringing light to their struggle. “We were hung out to dry,” O’Prey said. “If it wasn’t for Senator Schumer and The Post,’’ it wouldn’t have happened.

The family visited Sen. Schumer at his Midtown office last week.

Mick politely said, “Thank you,” to Schumer before the two high-fived.

The senator said he was thrilled for the O’Prey family.

“To see him here makes my heart feel full,” Schumer said.
