A former New Jersey cop was convicted of vehicular manslaughter Thursday for causing a fatal car wreck when he drove drunk the wrong way down a Staten Island highway.

Pedro Abad, 29, a former Linden police officer, was convicted on 19 charges including reckless endangerment and aggravated vehicular manslaughter after a two-week jury trial at Richmond County Supreme Court, according to the Staten Island District Attorney’s Office.

“Mr. Abad’s fateful choice to get behind the wheel while he was heavily intoxicated ended in a horrific and deadly crash,” District Attorney Michael E. McMahon said in a statement.

“Today’s top-count conviction ensures that Mr. Abad will spend many years behind bars.”

The former cop had been drinking at a strip club in the Charleston section of the borough before speeding down the Staten Island Expressway in the wrong direction around 4:40 a.m. in March 2015.

The result was a horrific crash that killed two of Abad’s friends and seriously injured another.

He now faces up to 25 years in prison.
