Despite getting caught bribing an NYPD sergeant for confidential crime files, NYPD cop-turned-private detective Joey Dwyer avoided jail time Friday.
Judge Alison Nathan chided Dwyer, 48, for the “corruption and corrosion of our [justice] system,” saying his tampering could have led to more serious crimes, like witness intimidation.
“You broke the law. You decided you know better than law enforcement. You decided the rules should not apply to you or your clients,” Nathan said.
Dwyer faces five years’ probation after pleading guilty in January to paying bribes for confidential court files.
