Ex-Gambino underboss Anthony “The Genius” Megale, a Connecticut gangster who allegedly ran the show for jailed boss Peter Gotti in the early 2000s, died Tuesday — less than a year after he got out of federal prison, a report said.

Megale had been Gotti’s eyes and ears on the street for 2½ years, when he stepped into the underboss role, law-enforcement sources have said.

Megale was released from federal prison in December after he did 8 years on extortion raps.

“As underboss, Megale reports to the boss of the Gambino family, helps decide disciplinary issues involving the family, and assists in resolution of internal family disputes,” the indictment in that case read.

Megale died at Stamford Hospital, according to the Stamford Advocate.
