NEWARK, N.J. — The former deputy mayor of New Jersey’s second largest city is due to be sentenced Monday on corruption charges.

Leona Beldini, who was arrested last year in New Jersey’s largest federal corruption sting, was found guilty in February of accepting $20,000 in illegal campaign contributions.

The money came from an FBI informant posing as a real estate developer.

Beldini was acquitted of more serious extortion charges at trial.

In post-trial motions, defense lawyer Brian Neary argued that the verdict was inconsistent, but U.S. District Judge Jose Linares dismissed the motions.

Neary’s attempts to delay the sentencing date, citing Beldini’s health problems, were also dismissed.
