The former president of a union representing bus drivers who work for the New York City Department of Education is accused of extorting over $500,000 from bus company owners.

Federal prosecutors say Warren Annunziata was arrested at his Roslyn Heights home on Thursday on an indictment charging him with extortion and receiving illegal labor payments.

Prosecutors said the 75-year-old is a longtime member of Local 91 of the United Craft and Industrial Workers’ Union. He’s also currently the union’s pension fund administrator.

They say he used his high-ranking position to pressure bus company owners into giving him cash payments.

A woman who answered the phone at his office said she was unaware of the arrest.

Annunziata’s attorney, Murray Richman, didn’t immediately respond to a telephone request for comment.
