Former Paterson, NJ Mayor Jose Torres was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday for instructing employees to work at a private warehouse on the taxpayers’ dime.

Torres, 59, was handed down the sentence by Superior Court Judge Sheila Venable after pleading guilty on Sept. 22 to second-degree conspiracy to commit official misconduct, according to the Bergen Record.

He is barred from public office and must pay the city $10,000 in restitution, the paper reported.

Three of his co-conspirators pleaded guilty and received three years of probation.
