An ex-Rikers Island inmate won a $40,000 settlement from the city after he sued over guards beating him so badly, they broke his teeth.

Manuel Mora was headed to court in October 2012 when Rikers correction officers threw him onto a table and assaulted him, according to his Manhattan federal-court lawsuit.

“The city has made getting sued over its correction officers part of the cost of doing business,” lawyer Nicholas Mindicino said.

“Continuing the litigation was not in the City’s interest,” said a city Law Department spokesman.

In the last year the Department of Correction spent an additional $23.5 million to increase officer training and recruitment, a DOC spokesman said.
