Brooklyn Bridge Park patrons could soon be getting a larger dog run, more activities for older children and better riverfront views by the DUMBO waterfront.

City officials are planning to tear down a Department of Transportation shed near the park’s Main Street entrance and incorporate the tract into the park along with another vacant city building next to it.

Honchos overseeing the park were set to meet with Community Board 2 last night to discuss the plans, which include possibly reusing the one acre of land by Plymouth and Adams streets as basketball courts or a skateboarding area, for boating programs, and landscaping the area to offer better riverfront views by the Manhattan Bridge.

An existing dog run near the DOT shed could also be replaced with a larger facility. The city also wants to potentially convert an unused Department of Environmental Protection building in the footprint into public bathrooms that could be accessed off Plymouth Street.

Regina Myer, president of the city Brooklyn Bridge Park Corp., said the agency is seeking community feedback first but hopes to break ground on the new piece of the park by next summer. The agency also needs the feds to sign off on the deal as part of an earlier agreement that incorporated former federal parkland into the city park.
