A fighter jet intercepted a small aircraft in the Big Apple on Tuesday, creating a “very loud” commotion that alarmed residents and set off car alarms.

The F-16 jet was responding to a Cessna 182 that flew around into a restricted air space around 2 p.m. during the UN General Assembly, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said.

The Cessna was escorted out and landed safely about a half-hour later, the agency said.

Still, the commotion roused New Yorkers who captured videos of the jet as it did loops over the city skyline.

“Very low, very loud turns from what looked like an #f16 #nyc to fast for my camera…got some sound!” wrote one Twitter user. “Set off a lot of car alarms, not normal.”

Another wrote, “fighter jet casually breaking the sound barrier over nyc on a [Tuesday] afternoon, very normal stuff.”

“I’m used to the sound of fighter jets back home in Ohio. When I lived near an Air Force base. Hearing them fly around my apartment in NYC feels massively different and it’s making me very uncomfortable,” wrote a third Twitter user.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it was investigating the violation of the restricted airspace.
