Fallen Bravest is hailed
The Brooklyn Bravest who died of a heart attack while battling a raging fire was remembered yesterday as a “firefighter’s firefighter” during a solemn ceremony outside his station house.
“A lieutenant like him is hard to find,” Capt. James Hurley said of fallen Lt. Rich Nappi outside Engine 237 in Bushwick.
Nappi, a 47-year-old father of two, was leading a team laying a hose line in the mezzanine area of the first floor of a burning Flushing Avenue building Monday when he collapsed, overcome by heat and smoke.
Nappi’s death was the FDNY’s first fatality since 2009.
Nappi leaves behind wife Mary Anne, daughter Catherine, 12, and son Nicholas, 11.
