Pollard, who had less than two years on the job and was assigned to Ladder Co. 170 in Canarsie, died Sunday night after arriving at the scene of a car crash on the Mill Basin Bridge.
The firefighter tried to cross over a set of Jersey barriers separated by a 3-foot gap on the newly built span to reach two injured crash victims when he slipped through the space and plunged 52 feet to the ground below.
He died a short time later at Kings County Hospital.
Pollard comes from an FDNY family.
His father, Ray, is a retired member of Ladder Co. 102 in Bedford-Stuyvesant and his brother, Ray Jr. is an active member of Ladder Co. 114 in Sunset Park.
