More than 1,400 Big Apple babies were named Isabella or Jayden last year.

Pop culture and star worship were the driving forces behind New York’s most popular baby names, according to a city Health Department survey.

Names for newbies in the five boroughs included Usher, Rihanna, Peyton and Iman. Parents even paid homage to the city’s fashion scene, filling birth certificates with the names Armani and Chanel.

Biblical figures continued to be an inspiration, with names like Joshua and Jeremiah among the favorites for boys. Holy names for girls included Esther and Genesis.

Nine of the top 10 girls’ names for 2009 were holdovers from 2008. Among boys, Alexander made it into the top 10 for the first time, edging out Ryan.
