A fire tore through the third floor of an East Elmhurst building — a couple blocks from La Guardia Airport — killing a middle-aged man yesterday, authorities said.

David Newkirchen, 71, — who reportedly was a Vietnam veteran — was pulled from an apartment located on 77th Street near Ditmars Boulevard at 6:30 p.m. yesterday by firefighters.
