A city firefighter from a family of FDNY Bravest tragically died while battling an all-hands blaze in Brooklyn on Saturday night, officials said.
Married firefighter Patrick Brady, 42, died of a heart attack while responding to an inferno that erupted around 9:38 p.m. at a six-story apartment building on Kings Highway in Brownsville, Mayor Eric Adams and FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker announced late Saturday.
“He gave his life protecting this city that he loves and there is no sacrifice that is more selfless than the actions that took place this evening,” Adams told reporters of the fallen Queens fireman.

Tucker said the 11-year FDNY veteran was working on the roof of the burning building when he went into cardiac arrest.
First responders treated Brady at the scene before he was taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he died, the commissioner wrote in an X post. Officials said four other firefighters and one civilian suffered minor injuries.
Adams said Brady’s brothers Jimmy and Brian, his cousin Pete, and his uncle Pete are all either retired or active firefighters. The FDNY later released an image of the entire Brady family in their uniforms.
Fire officials said Brady’s death marks the second Bravest line-of-duty loss in just two weeks. Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman died on Oct. 29, after finishing a shift at the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall’s Island.

“He comes from a great fire department family. I ask you to keep in mind his entire family, the FDNY family, and very importantly the officers and members of the companies that he was at work with tonight when he lost his life protecting the citizens of the City of New York.”
Brady joined the FDNY on July 14, 2014. After graduating from the Fire Academy, he served with Engine 227 in Brooklyn before transferring to Ladder 120 in 2022.
Tucker said the Belle Harbor resident is the 1,163rd member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty.

In the early morning hours Sunday, about 250 of New York City’s Bravest lined up outside Brookdale Hospital, where Brady died, to honor his sacrifice as his American flag-draped body was carried out by eight firefighters and placed into an ambulance bound for the medical examiner’s office.
During the solemn moment, dozens of mourning firefighters and other first responders stood at attention and saluted Brady until the ambulance pulled away from the hospital.
“This is called a dignified transfer,” veteran first responder David Burns told The Post.
