NEW YORK — The FDNY is unveiling a $27 million fireboat that’s billed as the most technically advanced in the world.
The vessel is named The Three Forty Three. That’s the number of Fire Department members who died in the Sept. 11 attack.
It will help bolster counterterrorism at the city’s ports.
It has features that can detect and protect firefighters from chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.
The boat will be stationed at Marine 1 on the Hudson River on the West Side of Manhattan.
The fireboat and a sister ship, Firefighter II, were paid for in large part by Homeland Security grants.
