Overtime at the FDNY reached an all-time high this year — a whopping $308 million — caused by a lag in hiring due to a court case and Hurricane Sandy.

The agency’s OT bill is expected to drop to $215 million in the coming fiscal year with the hiring of 300 firefighters last month and another 300 expected in July, Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano testified at a City Council hearing yesterday. The tab was $231 million last year.

Most of the bill followed litigation over the entrance exam, which stopped hiring until last year.

Cassano also said he will outfit EMTs citywide with handheld devices that send patient information to hospitals.
