No bull — “Fearless Girl” is off to meet a new neighbor.
A woman poses in the “Fearless Girl” statue spot.APThe famed statue of the defiant young girl was removed from her spot staring down Wall Street’s “Charging Bull” Tuesday night — and will be installed in her new home in front of the New York Stock Exchange by the end of the year, officials said Wednesday.
A plaque bearing two shoe prints now marks the sassy statue’s old location, reading: “Fearless Girl is on the move to the New York Stock Exchange. Until she’s there, stand for her.”
The 4-foot bronze icon was first installed on Broadway in March 2017 as an International Women’s Day marketing stunt for financial services company State Street Global Advisors, which claimed it was supposed to encourage corporations to put more women on their boards.
It was supposed to be up for a week, but the plucky girl quickly gained worldwide fame and became a hot spot for tourists, so the city agreed to keep it around for a year — and then to give it a permanent home a few blocks away in front of the stock exchange.
No specific date has been given for the effigy’s re-installation.
