The federal government has opened an investigation into Mount Sinai Hospital after a Brooklyn nurse claimed she was forced to assist in a late-term abortion despite her religious beliefs opposing the practice.
The US Health and Human Services Department will determine whether the Manhattan hospital violated Catherina Cenzon-DeCarlo’s civil rights when it allegedly bullied the devout Catholic last year into helping with the procedure.
In a lawsuit filed last year against the hospital, Cenzon-DeCarlo argued the mother’s life was not in danger and that Mount Sinai punished her for objecting.
