A Manhattan man was ordered held without bail yesterday for allegedly using stolen FedEx shipping-account numbers from more than 20 companies to start his own “discount” shipping operation.
Amadou Fall, 45, a Senegalese native, ripped off FedEx for $80,000 worth of shipping, in one case using a stolen account number to send a bulky package to Mali at a cost of $3,000, Manhattan prosecutors said.
The account numbers were stolen from mostly small local businesses, although one shipping-account number was swiped from Lazard Ltd, according to the indictment.
“The defendant used stolen property to offer his customers FedEx service at bargain-basement prices,” DA Cyrus Vance Jr. said.
Fall faces up to seven years if convicted of identity theft.
