The Federal Railroad Administration has opened an investigation into the Harlem subway derailment, sources said on Wednesday afternoon.

The agency will join the MTA in investigation the morning rush hour crash that injured 39 riders. Subway officials have said an improperly stored and secured rail caused the incident.

The MTA has suspended two supervisors who they said did not follow safety protocols.
