The city’s January police class, which had been slated to be canceled due to budget cuts, has been restored at a fraction of its usual size, thanks to a federal stimulus grant, Mayor Bloomberg announced yesterday.

A $36 million grant from the Transit Security Program will fund 104 recruits’ training at the academy — less than half the size of the 250-person class in July and a far cry from the classes of at least 1,000 recruits prior to the fiscal crisis.
