BATAVIA, NY — The nation’s top antitrust investigator was upstate yesterday to hear farmer and consumer complaints about an alleged lack of competition in New York’s dairy industry.

Assistant Attorney General Christine Varney is taking testimony as to why a drop in the prices processors pay for milk at the farm level has yet to translate to savings for the public in stores.
