ALBANY — GE must remove more PCB-tainted sediment from the Hudson and take better river-bottom samples when it resumes dredging in the spring, the federal Environmental Protection Agency said yesterday.

Environmentalists predicted the new standards would ultimately mean a cleaner river — but they ripped the EPA for letting GE leave covered-over PCBs in up to 11 percent of the project area.
