A female pedestrian was seriously injured after a car slammed into her in Midtown this afternoon.

The unidentified victim was on 57th Street near 10th Avenue at 2:10 p.m. when she was struck by a silver Hyundai, witnesses and officials said.

“I was just sitting here, and all of a sudden, somebody ran in and asked for a bunch of napkins,” said witness Leslie Stewart, who was in a nearby restaurant. “It was then that we realized that there was a woman lying on the ground with blood all over her face. It looked bad.”

A doctor from a nearby medical clinic ran out and helped the victim until medics arrived, witnesses said. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with a serious head injury, fire officials said.

“It’s a real tragedy,” said a passenger inside the vehicle that hit her. “We were just going through a green light in the right lane, and all of sudden, it just happened.”

The accident is under investigation, officials said.
