Preservationists are trying to save a Long Island house that was built by a Civil War veteran in 1900.

The Kellogg House in Baldwin is owned by Nassau County, which plans to build a police station on the site.

Karen Montalbano, of “Save the Kellogg House,” wants to preserve it while accommodating the police facilities. Nassau County has offered to move the house, but that could compromise its rare brick foundation with tree-trunk supports.
