A fire at the Con Ed plant on East 14th Street has affected electric service, a company spokesman said.
The blaze broke in a transformer at 2:25 p.m., the Fire Department said.
Some “transmission disturbances” resulted from the blaze, said Con Ed spokesman Allan Drury.
“There was a momentary dip in voltage — some people may have noticed their lights flicker,” said Drury.
Nobody has lost power, said Drury. “We believe the system is stable,” he said.
So far, no injuries have been reported in the blaze.
Con Ed has a steam-and-electricity generator in the neighborhood, as well as an electricity transmission station.
