CAMDEN, N.J. — An overnight fire at a Camden, N.J., apartment building has killed a toddler and hurt five other people.
The blaze erupted Saturday morning inside the Gramercy Park Apartments. Firefighters tell WPVI-TV that flames were shooting through the roof by the time they arrived.
The station reports that firefighters smashed windows to get to a 22-month-old boy inside a bedroom. The toddler was critically burned and pronounced dead at a hospital.
Officials tell WPVI-TV that four people, including the toddler’s 4-year-old brother, are being treated for smoke inhalation, and the boys’ mother is being treated for shock.
The Red Cross is helping 18 people displaced by the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
