A popular dance club in an exclusive section of Fire Island was destroyed by a fire Monday night that took more than 12 hours to bring under control.

“It’s shaken the entire community,’’ said Andrew Kirtzman, who co-owns the destroyed Pavilion dance club. The cause is under investigation. Some small pockets of fire still exist.

Also wrecked was the LaFontaine building and a home on Black Duck Walk.
