The woman who died in the water off Fire Island during a severe thunderstorm over the weekend was identified by officials Wednesday as a 67-year-old Manhattan resident.

The body of Upper East Side woman Barbara Langbecker was discovered around 3:40 p.m. Sunday after a passerby spotted her floating in the water near the shore in the area of the Seaview Marina, Suffolk County police said.

The man used a paddle board to grab hold of Langbecker and keep her afloat until medics arrived, but she could not be saved.

Investigators believe she drowned while swimming in the rough waters amid severe storms. Her official cause of death was not immediately available.
