A Brooklyn woman died when fire ripped through her home Saturday morning.
Alma Crosby, 64, had lived at 1433 East 52nd St. in Flatlands since 1993, records show. She lived alone in the small brick house and seemed to have few visitors, according to Eliana Lemos, a neighbor.
“Her kids would come every couple months,” Lemos said.
The fire was reported at 10:15 a.m. Firefighters arriving minutes later found heavy smoke and flames “blowing out of the basement,” said Deputy Chief Stephen Moro.
“It was a difficult fire,” Moro said. “There was a lot of fire in the basement, and a little extension to the floor above.”
The blaze took around 25 minutes to contain.
The interior of the house was completely gutted, though the exterior appeared relatively intact. A white car covered with a tarp was parked in the garage.
About 60 firefighters and 12 units responded. Three firefighters received minor injuries.
