A royal revel was on the books as mom, dad and the kids teamed up with the fellow faithful to celebrate Purim at the Flatbush Park Jewish Center.

Costumed youngsters re-enacted the tale of Purim, transforming the auditorium of the community synagogue, 6363 Avenue U, into a festive wonderland, complete with games, attractions and a reading from the Holy Book of Esther.

Purim, observed on the 14th day of Adar, one month before Passover, commemorates the deliverance of Jews living under Persian rule from royal adviser Haman’s evil designs to exterminate them.

The name Purim is derived from the word “pur,” which means a lottery, the method used by Haman to select the date on which he intended to release his hordes for a general massacre of the Jewish people.
