Harold Ford Jr.’s brief foray into New York politics was ultimately the campaign-that-wasn’t, but the would-be Senate hopeful will hold a “thank-you” event for various supporters tomorrow at the Four Seasons, sources said.

It’s unclear how large a crowd is expected, but several longtime boosters are expected to be there for cocktails.

Ford got major attention in a small amount of time, thanks in part to dissatisfaction among some Democrats with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, and also to his own ability to generate headlines.

Ford was propelled mainly by a small group of advisers, including press aides Davidson Goldin and Tammy Sun, and Mayor Bloomberg advisers Bradley Tusk and pollster Doug Schoen.

He also had a small group of high-powered Democratic fundraisers backing him, including financiers Steve Rattner and his wife Maureen White, and Orin Kramer, one of the earliest Barack Obama boosters.
