A former top official of the state Correction Department who was in charge of a unit that investigated misconduct in the prison system was arrested Monday on charges of sexually harassing a female subordinate.

James Ferro, 55, who retired two weeks ago as director of operations of the Special Investigations Unit, was accused in a four-count indictment by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman of groping the woman. When she complained, Ferro allegedly cut her overtime.

Ferro pleaded not guilty in Albany city court.
