Former Mayor Ed Koch is now in intensive care.

Dr. Joseph Joseph Tenenbaum, his cardiologist and personal physician, moved Koch from the regular ward at New York Presbyterian Medical Center to intensive care this afternoon, said Koch spokesman George Arzt.

“He wanted to monitor the mayor more closely,” Arzt said.

The 88-year-old ex-mayor returned to the hospital on Monday — two days after he was released in his latest treatment for fluid in the lungs.
