He has a mania for Albania.

Jet-setting oddball former New York City Mayor Eric Adams is now a citizen of Albania.

Yes, really.

Adams received Albanian citizenship through a special decree by the Balkan nation’s President Bajram Begaj, outlets in the country first reported and The Post confirmed.

A copy of the decree revealed that Adams — who long cultivated contacts with Albania — requested citizenship.

“Granting Albanian citizenship, upon his request, to the citizen: Eric L. Leroy Adams,” the document reads.

The out-of-left-field citizenship came barely three months after the end of Adams’ rocky single term in office, which saw him under federal indictment for allegedly taking bribes and travel perks from Turkish nationals.

Adams’ latest foreign entanglement quickly inspired a torrent of online snark.

Within minutes, his Wikipedia page was edited to identify him as an “Albanian-American politician.”

“We like having a Muslim mayor so much we’re gonna make every previous mayor Muslim too,” one X user posted, joking about Adams’ successor, Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Another X user riffed off Adams’ tendency as mayor to declare that “New York City is the (blank) of America.”

“The Eric Adams of Albania is the Eric Adams of America,” the user posted.

Perhaps unbeknownst to the jester, Adams had already beat them to the punch during a trip to Albania in late 2025, as his mayoral tenure closed, a Balkans-focused X account pointed out.

“New York is the Albania of America,” Adams said during the overseas visit, according to an Albanian news clip shared by the account.

Adams’ ties to Albania go back to at least 2022, when his raunchy rapper son Jordan Coleman competed in the country’s equivalent of “American Idol.”

He jetted off to Albania himself last year after dropping out of the mayoral race and hobnobbing with an Albanian TV host during the United Nations General Assembly.

Adams’ spokesman Todd Shapiro cast the citizenship request as the culmination of long friendship between the former mayor and the city’s Albanian-American community.

“The decision by the Republic of Albania to grant Mayor Adams citizenship reflects that enduring relationship and mutual respect,” Shapiro said in a statement Friday.

“New York City is the ultimate melting pot — a global capital where every nation is represented. As mayor, Eric Adams embraced that role fully, viewing the office not only as a local position, but as one with global influence and responsibility.”

Albania and the US do have an extradition treaty, though it includes an exemption clause for “political offenses.” Either county can deny the other’s extradition request if it believes they are politically motivated, with exceptions for serious, violent offenses, under the updated 2022 treaty.
