Former police Commissioner Howard Safir will not face charges for hitting a pregnant woman with his SUV on the Upper East Side last month, a law enforcement source said.

Safir struck Joanne Valarezo, 30 of the Bronx as he backed into a parking space on Third Avenue between East 80th and 81st streets on Jan. 8.

He drove off and later told cops he was unaware that he hit Valarezo, but the woman claimed the former commissioner knew exactly what had happened.

The Manhattan District Attorney had opened up an investigation of the incident after cops cleared Safir, but decided not to charge him, the sources said.
