FORT DRUM — Fort Drum is sending more soldiers to storm-ravaged New Jersey to help the post-Sandy recovery efforts.

Officials at the Army post in northern New York say more than 50 fuel tankers and about 250 members of the 10th Mountain Division have headed to Joint Base Maguire-Dix-Lakehurst to work in areas devastated last week. Some of the vehicles left Monday while others departed Tuesday morning.

Last Wednesday, eight Black Hawk helicopters and their crews from the division’s 10th Combat Aviation Brigade left Fort Drum for the Boston, Mass., area. They’ve been working since Saturday out of the McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst base about 20 miles from Trenton.

The helicopter crews have been flying missions around the Jersey Shore, Long Island and New York.
