And then there were two?

Vito Fossella appeared to all but rule out running for his old congressional seat on Staten Island in an interview posted on NewsMax.

Asked about “rumors” that he’s weighing a re-run after opting against running for reelection in the wake of a second-family scandal, Fossella said serving for a decade in Congress was a “wonderful privilege” and he was “flattered” to have people encouraging him again.

But he added, “There are no plans to do so.”

Asked again, he said, “I have no plans whatsoever to do so.”

Of course, plans can change. But there are already two candidates in the GOP primary as of now who hope to take on Democratic Rep. Mike McMahon — ex-FBI agent Michael Grimm, and former State Sen. Marty Golden aide Michael Allegretti.
