Accused Connecticut wife-killer Fotis Dulos, who tried to kill himself by attaching a hose to his car’s exhaust pipe in his garage with the engine running, is in “dire” condition at a Bronx hospital, his lawyer said Wednesday.

A bail hearing in the murder and kidnapping case went forward Wednesday, a day after the attempted suicide via carbon monoxide poisoning at his Farmington mansion.

“Candidly, his medical condition is dire” and “the situation is grim,” attorney Norm Pattis said after the hearing in Stamford Superior Court. “Family members … will arrive in New York tonight, and we will await word from physicians about what is reasonable to expect.”

If and when Dulos, at Jacobi Medical Center, is well enough to return to court, he’ll face re-arrest, Judge Gary White ruled.

Dulos, 52, has been free since Jan. 9 on $6 million bail, which White upped by $500,000.

Police said Dulos attempted to kill himself Tuesday at around the same time he was due in court to learn whether his bail would be revoked and he’d be tossed back in jail.

The bond was in question after the company that backed it, Palmetto Surety, raised concerns over “imperfections in the collateral” provided by Dulos: namely his residences at 4 Jefferson Crossing in Farmington and 61 Sturbridge Hill Road in New Canaan, according to court papers.

Both homes are in foreclosure, and the New Canaan property was apparently overvalued by about $325,000, the filing says.

Pattis would not comment on what led Dulos to attempt suicide or say if he left a suicide note.

“I can’t speculate on what led him to do what he apparently did,” the lawyer told reporters. “We had no indication that this was possible and we are as shocked as you are by this.”

Farmington police were working to obtain a search warrant for Dulos’ home on Jefferson Crossing, but hadn’t yet secured one, sources told the Hartford Courant.

Later Wednesday afternoon, Pattis arrived at Jacobi to visit Dulos, who was initially reported as dead Tuesday before police clarified to say emergency responders were able to detect a faint pulse during resuscitation efforts. He was airlifted to Jacobi and placed in a hyperbaric chamber.

Dulos, a luxury-home builder, is charged with kidnapping and murdering his estranged wife and mother of his five children, Jennifer Dulos.

The couple, who married in 2004, were in the midst of a nasty divorce and custody battle when Jennifer, 50, vanished after dropping her kids off at school May 24, 2019.

Dulos’ then-girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, and his former civil attorney, Kent Mawhinney, have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
