Fowl butcher plucked
The owner of a Chinatown poultry-processing firm agreed to clean up his act after feds charged him with peddling 5,000-plus pounds of uninspected duck meat.
In settling the civil suit filed by the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office, Yi Chun Liu promised to stop preparing poultry “in unsanitary conditions” at his Kong Yik Co. store on Ludlow Street.
Packaging “incorrectly suggested” the poultry had been prepared in a USDA-inspected facility.
Liu also agreed to shutter his wholesale business until he’s licensed and inspected.
“It’s disgusting,” said David Hu, 17. “Who knows how many diseased ducks got out there?”
Liu didn’t return calls.
