Frackers’ exit threat
Proposed state regulations for hydrofracking upstate could drive natural-gas drillers to other states, the energy industry is warning.
“Industry is in favor of a high environmental bar, but not in favor of a program fraught with uncertainty, potential delays and unnecessary costs,” said Thomas West of the state’s Independent Oil and Gas Association.
Environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a member of Gov. Cuomo’s advisory panel on fracking, defended the proposed rules, saying they are “in no way going to drive industy out of New York state.”
