A Long Island fruit distributor was nearly forced to shutter when 21,000 boxes of bananas it ordered were never delivered — and now the produce seller is suing Ecuador’s biggest fruit conglomerate over the missed shipment.
Esposito Brothers, based in Lynbrook, says it had to scramble to find “non-name-brand bananas” to sell in July 2013 when the massive shipment of Bonita bananas from Fruit Importers Americas Inc. never showed up, according to the new Brooklyn federal court lawsuit. The suit seeks at least $27 million in damages.
Lawyers who’ve previously represented Fruit Importers didn’t immediately return messages.
